Monday afternoon March 28th.
At Ms. Smith’s office, Renee said the Pledge of Allegiance to the whole community and class.  Lucas was in the class doing the Pledge of Allegiance.

Art Tuesdays with Ms. Wong

1st Grade Reading

Right now in first grade, we are learning about how to be a reading  hero.  Some ways to be a reading hero are to read more and more and be better at reading.  We are doing this to learn in school and to be smart and learn a lot.

2nd Grade Writing

Right now, we are writing science.  When we do experiments, we write about it and look at it.  These are called lab reports.  We make observations and hypothesis.  We decided if our hypothesis was correct or incorrect.  We finish by asking questions.

Every day, Monday-Friday, 2-418 and 2-417 are learning many kinds of strategies to read.  We do this to be at another reading level.  It makes us smart.

2nd Grade Math

Field Trips

Last week, first grade went to the recycling center!  We saw garbage cans, cans for recycling, and trucks.  We were so happy for the trip.  We learned how to sort cans and garbage into recycling.  Recycling is important so we can use things again and help the Earth!  Please recycle!

Sometimes classes go on field trips, like swimming classes.  During school, they go to parks, restaurants, museums, zoos, and lots of different places.  The classes go to learn something new and important. 

Parent Teacher Conferences

On March 1st, PS 516 had parent teacher conferences.  Teachers and parents talked about how the kids are doing in reading and writing and math.  We do this because our parent will know how good we are doing.

Cookshop

Sometimes classes do Cookshop.  This is learning about vegetables and food.  It also teaches us that some vegetables could be fruits because some vegetables have seeds.  We are trying new food.  You need a bowl, plastic knives, and clean hands.  We cook!

Water Experiment

In first grade, we are learning about water.  We tried some water experiments.  We are going to see what happens when you put an ice cube in boiling water.  We predict the ice cube will melt.

Recycling Center Trip

On Tuesday, 1-310 went to the Recycling Center.  We saw lots of recycled garbage!  We learned about sorting garbage: in the blue one you use plastic, metal, cartons, and glass to recycle.  In the green one, you use paper to recycle.  In the black one, is for garbage to go into a landfill.  When you recycle you can use it over again!  Go check out this recycling center!

New York Historical Society

On Friday, second grade went to the Historical Museum.  It was 2-418. We learned about a long time ago things that they use like a boot jack if you're shoes have rain, you take them out with the boot jack.  We also learned that a long time ago they didn't have light and they used some candles.  They used different ways to light up a room.  We also learned about a roundabout chair for going to the bathroom.  I am happy that I didn't live a long time ago.

Realistic Fiction

In first grade, every day we write realistic fiction series. This means we practice our writing by writing more about the same characters.  We are using The Monsters series and Zapato Power and Frog and Toad to help us learn more and become better writers!

Family Friday

In class 1-310 on Family First Friday, we played math games.  We did this because 1st grade is learning math.

Brooklyn Bridge Trip

2nd grade went to Manhattan and walked the Brooklyn Bridge.  This happened on March, 9.  Students of 2nd grade were there.  This happened because they wanted students to be exited to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.

We went to Brooklyn Bridge and ate pizza.  This happened on March, 9.  Students from 2-417 and 2-418 were there.  Students went there because they were hungry.

Trip to Grimaldi's

Today Class 2-417 and 2-418 went to eat pizza at Grimaldi's.  We crossed the Brooklyn Bridge.  We did that first and then we went to Grimaldi's Pizzeria.  We were tired.  We liked going to Grimaldi's Pizzeria.

On March 9th, Ms. Maddox's and Ms. Jamotta & Rios' classes went over the Brooklyn Bridge and ate pizza.  We had fun and got a lot of exercise because Ms. Smith said we should have a trip. 

Book Fair

At the stage at PS 516 there was a book fair.  Some people used money to buy books.  Whole classes went to the book fair during the day and students took their families after school.  The whole community came.  PTA gave us some books for our class to learn.  Thank you, PTA!

​The book fair opened Wednesday and Thursday at PS 516.  They were selling books for the students and parents from PS 516 because they want the students to learn.  There was also book sticks and school stuff like pencils, erasers, paper and sharpeners.
