In November, 1-304 had a Reading Celebration! This day brought our Celebrations Unit and our Reading Workshop Unit together. We invited families in to help us celebrate that we are reading more and more.

In November, 1-304 went to the Museum of Modern Art. We had three visits from our MoMA expert Ms. Kristen before and after our visit to get us ready. On our visit, we talked about a few different pieces of art and we were even able to sketch one of the pieces to bring home! For Family Friday in October, 1-304 was inspired by Lois Ehlert's Leaf Man. We used the leaves and seeds we had collected in Sunset Park to invent our own own creations! We had leaf people, leaf birds, and even leaf fish! 1-304 went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in October. We researched many different kinds of plants for our Leaf Unit! 1-304 read, reread, wrote post-its, and practiced non-fiction books for many days. This was all to celebrate the end of our non-fiction reading unit with our families! Below are pictures of some of our experts reading aloud to parents and peers in January. On Tuesday, February 2nd, 1-304 ordered take-out from Cafe Zona Sur for snack. Rachel and Ms. Zhang called Cafe Zona Sur to place an order for six french fries. We counted our money to make sure we had enough (thank you parents!) and we walked over. Students observed the restaurant while we waited for our food: the ceiling, the tables and place settings, the cash register, the music, the menus, the people eating, etc. We were very respectful of other people who were also there to enjoy Cafe Zona Sur's wonderful food. This trip helped with our research for our Restaurant Unit and gave many of us inspiration for review writing in Writing Workshop. Below are the pictures of us eating "family style" to get ready for our field trip to Alma! Delicious! |
